Photo of the Day-Iceland Beach
Jokulsarlon, Iceland
The Photo of the Day: Iceland Beach was captured this past November by David C. Schultz during a 6 day photo workshop he lead with the help of a local guide. One of the main attractions for David was this beautiful beach scene along the south-east coast of Iceland. This beach is alongside Jokulsalon, (glacial river lagoon) a lake that is full of chunks of ice that have calved off the Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier. The ice flows a short distance and under Highway 1 on its way out to the nearby Atlantic Ocean where the waves tumble and polish them before they’re washed back ashore onto the black sand beach.
“I’d seen images of this beach for a few years and knew one day I’d have to go there for myself. Once, in Greenland, I’d been able to spend a short amount of time in a small lagoon near the base of a glacier and it had similar polished bergy bits washed ashore. I could have spent a whole day or more there but the tide and our schedule made it impossible. Coming to Iceland was a real treat knowing that I would have plenty of time to explore the beach at different times of day and different lighting conditions. I can’t wait to return.”
David is in the process of making arrangements to hold another Photo Workshop in Iceland, perhaps in January or February of 2015 so that he’ll have a better chance of taking participants into some of the beautiful ice caves as well as photographing the aurora borealis. Of course a return visit to the Jokulsalon beach will be on the shoot list as well! Please check back if you’d like to join David on this or any of his other very popular workshops. Thanks for visiting and Sharing!
